Our story

Two strangers, one shared mission, and a problem that affects millions of African families.

Three generations of a family smiling together outside their home

Built by daughters who've been there

Rudo Mudzingwa and Sisi Nxumalo met in November 2025, when both were selected for the Jasiri Talent Investor Programme, a pan-African entrepreneurship fellowship. During its three-month residential phase at the UCT Graduate School of Business, they found they were drawn to the same problem, and joined forces. Both have felt the pride of supporting family, and the frustration of doing it through scattered messages, transfers and spreadsheets.

After months of conversations with families, caregivers and communities, one thing was clear: the problem isn't willingness to help. It's coordination.

Money, with meaning.

Support should create connection, not confusion. Visibility, not uncertainty. Collaboration, not burden.

Why "Kini"? Kini is a Nguni word that speaks to your people, your relatives, your kin: those connected to you through relationships and community.

Rudo MudzingwaCo-founder. Over ten years in banking and business, including Investec, and co-founder of Supribuy.
Sisi NxumaloCo-founder. Jasiri Fellow, building better ways for families to see, share and care.

Building isn't always linear

In August we started testing the first version of Kini with 10 families. They found it useful, and told us they needed something else first: a clear, shared picture of what's happening in their parent's life, before coordinating anything. So we went back to the drawing board, on purpose.

Five steps of the Kini journey: we build, excited and hopeful; we test, positive feedback; the twist, families love it but need something else first; we reflect, humbled but ready to learn; we go back to go forward, with a clearer direction
